Dear friends,
“ESO (European Senior Organisation) – PES seniors” is the seniors’ network of the PES, the party of European Socialists and Social Democrats. It is the umbrella organization of socialist and social-democratic seniors’ organizations and/or working groups for seniors’ policy within the PES member parties.
With our newsletter, we want to inform you about our actions and positions, as well as some contributions from our members.
You can find our Newsletter HERE
In our third newsletter for 2026, you will find information about our activities and positions.
This time, it concerns our fringe meeting on April 17 as part of the Global Progressive Mobilisation in Barcelona, where we discussed older people and their involvement in politics—through mandates, but also through their organizations and within the framework of participatory democracy. Next October, we are planning a seminar on participatory democracy in Brussels. We have surveyed our contacts regarding the different types of participation in the various member states. You can find the questions in our newsletter. Anyone who can help us, please do.
Furthermore, information about our activity on June 10, where young (YES) and old (ESO) socialists exchanged views with S&D members of the European Parliament on the intergenerational fairness strategy, and about our participation in the European Parliament’s intergenerational forum on April 21, which aims to put the discussion on a UN Convention on the Rights of the older persons on the agenda of European institutions.
Furthermore, there are contributions from our member organizations: on the recent elections in Hungary, on the merger of the Dutch social-democrat PVDA and GroenLinks in a new political parti PRO in the Netherlands, on the fight for an “analogue life” against digital exclusion and better retirement conditions for older workers in Austria, on a older-person survey in the border region between Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Germany, and Belgian support for a UN Convention on the Rights of the Persons by the PS Seniors of Belgium. Our German member organization contributes an article on “care for people”, while our Swiss SP-60plus advocates for a social and open Switzerland.
This newsletter is primarily aimed at our partners and political representatives who are committed to senior citizen organizations and intergenerational solidarity. Would you like to contribute to our work, our reflections, and the implementation of our policy proposals and priorities? Please let us know. (eso@socialistseniors.eu)
Kind regards,
Jos Bertrand
