Together with our member organisations, our allies in the Party of European Socialists, Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament , FEPS and in the European civil society, as AGE Platform Europe we have drafted our ESO – multiannual programme 2024 2029..
We need a fundamental change in the narrative about seniors and an awareness that talking about ageing and about the “elderly” or “seniors” is value-based. We need to transform the dominant conservative narrative that narrows-down the “elderly” to “from care and pension dependent persons”, where only “fairness” is needed, into a narrative on “seniors” or “older persons” based on “active-citizenship, self-determination, emancipation and equality”, and where “solidarity” is a necessary condition.
We identified four pilars and eight working areas :
- Recognition of older people as full citizens
- Fight against discrimination and ageism
- A UN Convention for older persons
- A full income for all
- Guaranteed access to care and health care
- Age-friendly cities and communities
- Fight against digital exclusion and exclusion from services
- Investing in age equality
